We value being ethical when manufacturing clothing, it's important part of our ethos that we are ethical and sustainable. We manufacture all of the garments we make in London as we feel it's important to bring back clothing manufacturing to the UK, where we can make really high quality garments at a quick pace. We manufacture our clothing in London because it's important to us to make them in a sustainable manner, while ensuring we keep fabric waste to a minimum and paying our team a competitive fair wage for their hard work. It's also important to us to be sustainable by using sustainable fabrics that are knitted/woven in the UK, this allows us to minimise transportation miles and support the fabric manufacturers in the UK that also share this need to be sustainable when manufacturing.

Manufacturing in the UK, is mostly considered to be more expensive than manufacturing abroad. However this isn't always true. Brands need to consider that they will have to pay import charges, taxes, shipping fees to have the garments delivered to the UK but also to get the samples made and sent to you, VAT etc, when manufacturing abroad. Therefore it can sometimes be more cheaper to manufacture in the UK. Its more difficult to get your vision across to manufacturers abroad as they are thousands of miles away from you. While working with Clothing Manufacturers UK, you can work closely with us and see your garments at each stage of development. As we want you to be involved at every stage to ensure the garment is made exactly how you want it to be. We provide garment fittings so we can really go through each garment and perfect the fit of it.

It's more likely you will need to do more than one sample with a manufacturer abroad and it can be a back and forth process of making numerous samples in order to get the fit correct. You can feel fabrics at our studio before deciding which ones to go with, rather than waiting a few weeks to receive fabric samples from a manufacturer abroad. On average it takes about 4-8 weeks for our productions to be complete for each client, whereas it can take a minimum of 12 weeks to receive productions from an abroad manufacturer, as the manufacturer will need to export the garments which can take a few weeks.

CLOTHING MANUFACTUERS LONDON

Mass producing your garments in the UK, supports the people who live in the UK who have amazing skills at producing high quality garments, supporting our UK economy. Manufacturing with us, Clothing Manufacturers UK,  also supports other local businesses such as fabric suppliers who manufacture their fabrics here in the UK as well as our other suppliers who make our packaging and labelling... just to name a few things we use to help produce our garments. As we like to source in the UK, as much as possible to help keep our transporting emissions as low as possible but also support the other fabric and trims suppliers who are based in the UK, which we work alongside daily. It's an important part of our ethos, to keep as our sourcing only in the UK, as we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and be sustainable through out the whole process of manufacturing our garments.

We like to support new start up brands as much has possible therefore we have low MOQ's (minimum order quantities) to allow them to start up a clothing brand without the need to mass produce on such a large scale. We also allow all of our clients to split our MOQ further into different sizes and colour ways so that they can provide a wider range of clothing to their own clients. We are also able to manufacture large volumes of garments, so it's great for established brands that are looking to mass produce their styles. In order for us to support our start up brands further, we can provide one on one consultancy services to support start ups further, its a great service for those who do not have much knowledge in the fashion industry or just need extra support with the manufacturing process. At production, our MOQ is 250 units. This can be split between various styles. Then broken down further into different colour options and sizes. For swimwear our MOQ is 300 units, please visit our swimwear website for more details: www.swimwearmanufacturers.co.uk

We feel it's important for our clients to be as involved as possible in the process. In order to create custom garments exactly how they would like them to be. Therefore for us its vital the fit and shaping of the garment is perfected! We always suggest to our clients to attend a garment fitting with us at the toile and sampling stage. Garment fittings are crucial to ensure the garment fits well and everything is in proportion as sometimes things might look great on a drawing but when translated in to a 3D garment the proportions might not work according to a clients drawing so its always best to do a toile to minimise an errors further on in the process.

Choosing fabrics is an important part of the whole process. At Clothing Manufacturers UK, we can help with fabric sourcing. We source our fabrics from the UK and Europe, we priorities getting our fabrics as close to home as possible to minimise our carbon footprint as well as its much quicker to receive fabrics from the UK than importing them from abroad. We can source both woven and knitted fabrics that are manufactured in the UK/Europe. We also work alongside our fabric suppliers that can dye natural fibre fabrics such as cotton for you, to your desired Pantone colours.

THE PROCESS

DESIGNS

Please email us your designs, we cannot give you a quote without seeing your designs. You can share your designs as a mixture of reference images, physical samples from your own wardrobe, sketches, Tech drawings and Tech packs etc. If you are not sure what to show to us, please get in contact with us and we can point you in the right direction. Please attach annotations to your designs as this will help us understand what you would like, the more information you give to us, the better.

QUOTE

Once we recieve your designs we will go over them and put a quote together. To make the quoting process quick, please let us know how many units you would like per style and what fabrics you have in mind as well as what seam finishings you would like. For example: coverstitch, bagged out or binding etc. Please note that the quote is valid for 1 month only, after this, we will need to review them again. We will send the quote via email back to you.

CONSULTATION

Once you have review the quote and you are happy with the prices, we can then arrange a consultation with you. This is the crucial step in making your designs come to life. We will discuss your designs further so we can ensure we understand exactly what you would like. At the consultation meeting you can see what fabrics we have and you can select which ones you would like to go ahead with. Also you can see examples of our work and discuss any queries you may have. This is the meeting where you can ask as many questions as you want and throughly go through everything so it is clear exactly what steps follow next.

PATTERNS

If you do not have your patterns made already, this is the first stage. We will start of by making your patterns. We make our patterns from scratch. We will use your references images, sketches, tech packs and physical samples to make the patterns. If you want us to make an exact copy of a physical sample, we can do this also. We can discuss that during the consultation. Everything is catered to each client. Due to our demand, our pattern services are now taking 2-3 weeks to be completed.

TOILES

For new designs, made from scratch - a toile is recommended. In fact it is important to do a toile because a garments fit is NEVER perfect first time round no matter how experienced our pattern cutters are. It just isn't possible. However if measurements are given and physical samples are given to us then it makes the process much more quicker and streamlined. Please note that we do not amend toiles. If you want us to make another round of toiles, you will need to pay for the next set of toiles. Toiling takes 1-2 weeks

GARMENT FITTING

If we do make a toile for you then a garment fitting session is required. This is the stage where you or a model of your choice will try on the toile and we will throughly go through what changes you would like made to the pattern. We will then make the changes to the pattern after the fit session. Fit amendments to the patterns are FREE for 1 round only. Any amendments you require after this round is chargeable.

SAMPLES

We will then make your final samples in the correct fabrics and trimmings. This is the stage where you get to see what the production garments will look like. Sampling takes around 1-3 weeks, again it depends on how busy we are and how complex the styles are.

GRADING

Once you are happy with the fits and fabrics etc. of each style. We will then grade your patterns. We can use our own grade rule which we have perfected. However you are more than welcome to give us your own grade rule. For clients that do not know which grade rule they would like to use, we can suggest what we think is ideal for your brand and type of garments. Grading takes 1-2 weeks to be complete.

FABRIC/TRIMS ORDER

While we are grading your patterns, we will order your bulk fabric. Please note that our suppliers dispatch timings vary and depend on how in demand their fabrics are etc. The timeline for fabrics to arrive varies, it all depends on the supplier.

CMT PRODUCTION

This is the most exciting stage, where your designs are made in bulk. All of your garments will be made in London in 4- 6 weeks. However if you place a large order it could take up to 8- 10 weeks, depending how complex the styles are and how busy we are.
